Wedding Tradition 2 | The Use of Jewelry

About The Old Wedding Tradition Up To Our Time

Many wedding traditions exist around the world, some of which are very old which are still practiced to day but possibly the exact reason has been lost but that does not mean that new wedding traditions are not being created. The tiara is wedding tradition that goes back many, many centuries and whilst the origin is not exactly known, some believe it was first used by kings in ancient times who would wear a white ribbon over their head and shoulders when they were to be married. The tiara has changed a great deal down the years and in it's more contemporary from is shaped like a half moon and can be adorned with gemstones and made from all manner of exotic metals.

The bridesmaids can also wear a tiara but they must not be as elaborate as the bride's which usually sits on top of the veil to hold it in place. The tiara is the finishing touch to the wedding dress and many women will keep this beautiful item for the rest of their lives, such is the importance of it. Some weddings feature the bridesmaids, maid of honor, sometimes even the flower girl, being presented with tiara shaped rings as wedding favors.

Another old wedding tradition stated that wedding party members would escort the bride and groom to the place where they would start their honeymoon. It was then the party's task to try and take the garter from the bride's leg as the prize would be for this person to then wear it like a band around their hat or alternatively to a woman for whose attentions they were after. This wedding tradition worked for a while but owing to the amount of drink that many of the male guests consumed, the bride often found herself being undressed for the garter so in an effort to stop this they would toss the garter into the crowd once the service was over.

Often, men at the wedding would drink too much preempting this act and try to take the garter off before the bride was ready. Once again it was necessary for a wedding custom to be changed so brides started too throw the bouquet of flowers to the ladies at the wedding instead which had the same meaning as the thrown garter. The ritual of throwing the wedding garter has resurfaced as garters are normally used to hold up stockings, and are considered by many new brides to be an essential accessory for their wedding.

Women who are trying to stick to tradition will wear a blue garter as it is considered a lucky color but many brides like the somewhat more saucy red as their preferred color. Sometimes the groom will now remove the garter and fling it to the men of the wedding party or toss it over his shoulder so it cannot be aimed at anyone in particular. For the lucky man that catches the garter it is said that he will be the first to marry within the year following the wedding, providing he is a bachelor of course.
